As you can see, Grand Soul Gems allow you to capture any Grand or below level creature soul, however, if you want to take one from a human, you need a Black Soul Gem, however these can only hold. It will drop a LESSER soul gem every time and will also drop 1 blue item. Try to do this as soon as u can because LESSER soul gems won't work on u once u're past a certain level. These also really help for the solo dungeons u will find yourself on like for the fighters' guild quests and later mages guild quest.

Soul Gems havebeen a staple in the Elder Scrolls franchise. If you’ve been playing the older games, you’ll be well-acquaintedwith what they’re for and how you can acquire them. ESO soul gems, however, are entirelydifferent trinkets compared to those from the solo sandboxes. So whether you’renew or a veteran to Elder Scrolls, here’s a guide on how you can get them inthe Elder Scrolls MMO.

What exactly are SoulGems and how can you get them?
Traditionally, soulgems are items that trap enemies’ souls and are then used to charge magicalweapons. And in ESO, they have an additional purpose: to resurrect yourself and your teammates. Soul gems can either beempty or full. Obviously, only the latter can be used.
Soul gems vary in quality, which in turn determines thelevel of souls they can contain. They are as follows:
- Petty – 1-9
- Minor – 10-19
- Lesser – 20-29
- Common – 30-39
- Greater – 40-49 Souls
- Grand – 50+
- Leveled – Any
- Crown – Any level; fully charges weapon
There are many ways to obtain soul gems that are below Greater. You can get them from dungeonsand world bosses. The latter always drops 1 empty soul gem and 1 full soul gem.On the other hand, if you have the money and want to save time, you can buyeither empty or full ones from the MagesGuild. The empty ones are cheap, while the full ones are significantly moreexpensive. Nevertheless, if you have enough to spend for the latter and want tosave even more time, go for the full ones. Otherwise, you’re better off stickingwith the empty ones.
How do you fill SoulGems?
Should you choose to trap souls, here are the ways how. Bothinvolve the Soul Magic skill line. The more reliable method is to use the special skill Soul Trap. It’s adamage-over-time spell that traps the target’s soul in a soul gem if the enemyis killed while it’s active.
There’s also the SoulLock passive skill, which gives youa considerable chance to fill your empty soul gems every time you kill an enemy. While Soul Trap is a more surefire way to create full soul gems out of empty ones,Soul Lock practically requires much less effort.

What are weaponenchantments?
Once you have full soul gems, it’s time to charge yourweapon. But before that, here’s how to check if the weapon still has enough magicka for the special effects to work.If it’s zero, the weapon won’t be able to apply special effects upon attack.
Since we’re already on the topic of enchanted weapons, let’stalk about glyphs. These are theenchantments affixed to your weapons and are created by combining runes. Onlyweapon glyphs, however, have charges.
There are 14 weaponglyphs, and each one has a unique effect. Most of them are for dealing moredamage, and some are for utility and debuffs. In the end, it’s up to you whichglyphs you’ll put on your weapons depending on your preference, build, and playstyle.
How do you chargeweapons?
To charge your weapons, simply right-click on the weapon to bring up the drop-down menu and then clickon “Charge”. This will prompt you to a window asking you to select whichsoul gem you’ll use to charge the weapon.
For high-level weapons, petty and lesser soul gems aren’tgoing to cut it as they only charge 5% of the total weapon’s pool. Instead, they’ll need Greater and Grand soulgems. They’re pretty pricey gems, but they can last for quite some time untilthey need to be recharged again.
Unlike Thanos’ Soul Stone, ESO soul gemsare a dime a dozen. Nevertheless, they’re important items if you want yourweapons to be in tip-top combat shape. So hopefully, our handy guide taughtyou how to gather and use them.
Soul Gems are miscellaneous items which can be used to trap the soul of a dying creature or NPC. The resulting filled soul gems can be used as power sources for enchanted items, either when initially creating custom enchanted items or when recharging depleted enchanted weapons, either of which will consume the soul gem. In addition to the soul gems listed here, the Shivering Isles expansion adds a Soul Tomato that can be used as the equivalent of a grand soul gem.
They can be bought at most magical and alchemical shops.

Note: These IDs and values are set at the time you acquire a soul gem, and do not get changed when you fill the soul gem with a soul. In other words, if you pick up an empty grand soul gem, its value will be 200 gold. That value does not change when you fill it. Therefore, you can end up with grand soul gems containing grand souls with two different values, both 200 gold and 500 gold.

Where To Find Grand Soul Gems
Black Soul Gems[edit]
Regular Soul Gems can only trap creatures, not NPCs (note that some creatures, like Dremora, are actually classed as NPCs). Necromancy has researched the rituals necessary to create Black Soul Gems that are capable of trapping the souls of NPCs. The details of those rituals are described on the page describing Black Soul Gems.
Once you have a filled Black Soul Gem, it is used exactly like a regular Soul Gem. A Black Soul Gem can hold as much as a Grand Soul Gem (1600), but it is much easier to fill since any humanoid is 1600 units.

Azura's Star[edit]
Azura's Star is essentially the most powerful Soul Gem in the game, and can be obtained by completing Azura's Daedric Quest. Its quality is the same as a Grand Soul Gem; however, it has infinite uses and it is not used up after enchanting or recharging. It cannot be turned into a Black Soul Gem, and thus cannot hold NPC souls. See the page on Azura's Star for more details.
